The citizens who have come together to support Initiative 25 represent the broadest possible political spectrum of any grass roots initiative to be put before the voters of King County. Many such efforts claim to be nonpartisan – this one truly is.
“The citizens of King County deserve an elected director of elections. If elected, the position would be directly accountable by the public. Importantly, an elected director could be a strong advocate for the elections office to the County Council and the public. That has made a significant difference in the other 38 counties of the state.”
“Democracy is about belief as much as it is a form of government. For that reason I strongly urge you to help qualify Initiative 25. Together we can make the Elections Director accountable to the people of King County and thereby restore faith in the system.”
“Having been an observer of elections and interacting with the previous two appointed Directors, I think it is imperative that this be a non-partisan elected office. With all the problems we have all seen in King County Elections, we need someone independent, competent and serving at the will of the people. The Director of Elections is too important a position to be filled as a payoff for political services. We need a person of integrity not beholden to a particular political ideology or outcome.”
